Howdy Bill,

There are many interesting connections between the characters
that you mention in your post and a couple that you don't
mention. See below.

Preston Nichols, who also markets an electronic UFO detector,
was partner/co-founder of the now defunct 'Long Island UFO
Network' with John Ford. Some of you may recall John Ford as the
guy who was convicted (by a jury of his peers) for putting a
radioactive substance into the toothpaste of a local Long Island
politician - with the intention of causing bodily harm.

After John was convicted, the Long Island UFO Network along with
its 'premier' case, the *Moriches Bay incident, completely
disappeared from public view.

(*Moriches Bay... a case where 'allegedly' a large, triangular
shaped UFO was retrieved by government agents/military and then
taken by truck to the Brookings Institute, located on Long
Island, for study.)

The last anyone heard of Preston Nichols he was peddling his
"UFO Detector" and some other 'inventions' of his. Nobody that I
know here in New York has ever taken Preston Nichols, John Ford,
Al Bielek or 'Ed Cameron' seriously. Their names would come up
in conversation from time to time and they were all universally
dismissed by people within the UFO community as genuine kooks.
According to testimony from a couple of women who John
approached, it turns out that the reason Ford created the Long
Island UFO Network in the first place was so he could interview
female witnesses - and hopefully, eventually date them! It was
his own private dating service. BTW, Ford who was a active
promoter of Bielek and his Philadelphia experiment time travel
story was a prominent _garbage collector_ on Long Island before
he began his illustrious career as a UFO investigator. Prior
work experience which prepared him well for his chosen
ufological career.

The 'fringe' of the fringe. ;)

Thanks for passing this one along, Bill. But I'm not one bit
surprised. Most folks already knew that Al's elevator didn't
quite make it to the top floor. This whole investigation wasn't
really needed. I'll bet you could count the number of people who
actually bought into Bielek's story on one hand.

Warmest regards to you and Mrs. H,

John Velez
